Advance Meeting Information

The 116th Stated Meeting of the Presbytery of the East will take place on September 27-28, 2019, at Bethlehem Steltz Reformed EPC, Glen Rock, Pennsylvania.  Below are meeting dates, location, hotels, and special events.  Further notifications will be sent as plans for the meeting are developed and finalized.

PRE-MEETING EVENTS

Pre-Meeting Workshop:

Workshop:  The POTE’s Training Team will hold a pre-Presbytery Workshop at the 116th Stated Meeting.  The Workshop will be led by Dr. Diane Langberg, who is co-leader of Global Trauma Recovery Institute which is housed at Biblical Theological Seminary; serves on the board of G.R.A.C.E (Godly Response to Abuse in a Christian Environment); Co-Chair for the American Bible Society’s Trauma Advisory Council; and recipient of the Distinguished Alumna Achievements from Taylor University, the American Association of Christian Counselors Caregiver Award, The Distinguished President’s Award, and the Philadelphia Council of Clergy’s Christian Service Award.  {A flyer announcing this workshop and providing details was sent to the Presbytery on May 16.}

Hotel:  The host church has made arrangements with two hotels for accommodations on Thursday night for those who want to attend the pre-POTE Meeting Workshop.  25 rooms at the Shrewsbury Hampton and 5 rooms at the Holiday Inn Express have been set aside under Group Code PTE.  See “Hotel Reservations” below for details.

Pre-Meeting Prayer Gathering:  The pre-Presbytery prayer time will be held between 12:15 and 12:45 p.m. on Friday, and will be led by TE Brad Moger. The room number will be provided later.

MEETING DATES/TIME

Friday, September 27, 2019.  The Business Meeting will start at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, September 27, 2019.   Friday includes the Business Meeting, Moderator’s Dinner, and Worship Service. The Worship Service includes the Sacrament of Communion and an offering for the Seminarian Fund.

Saturday, September 28, 2019 – 8:45 a.m.-1:30 p.m. (approximate) and includes morning worship and the business meeting.

MEALS

MEALS:

Meal Reservations.

Deadline for meal reservations is 5:00 p.m. on September 13, 2019.  Please respect the need to make reservations by this deadline so the host church can accommodate everyone.

Everyone attending, who wishes to have dinner, breakfast, and/or lunch at the church, MUST make meal reservations in advance of the deadline.  The website for meal reservations will be disabled at 5:00 p.m. on September 13, 2019, and no further reservations will be taken.  Reservations cancelled after this date must be paid to the church by the person making the reservation.

On-Line Meal Registration.

Moderator’s Dinner:  Click on one of the following 3 options.

  • Option One:  Cole slaw, dinner roll, hot roast beef with gravy, mashed redskin potatoes, a Maryland-style crab cake, mixed vegetables, dessert, and iced tea, coffee, and water.
  • Option Two:  Gluten-free.  The same meal as Option One but gluten-free.
  • Option Three:  Vegetarian/Vegan:  Tossed Kale Salad, Scallops Sautéed (Optional), Cauliflower Steak, Mixed Vegetables, Vegan Macaroni & Cheese, Roll & Butter, and iced tea, coffee, and water

Breakfast.  The hotels offer a breakfast on site. A continental breakfast of fruit and pastries will be available at the church.

Lunch.  Click one of two choices available from Subway.

  • Option One:  Turkey sub, chips, cookie, and drink.
  • Option Two:  Ham sub, chips, cookie, and drink.

Use “Continue Shopping” until you have selected all of the meals that you want.  {Note:  Don’t click on “Proceed to Checkout” until you have selected all your meals.} The meal registrations are set up so that only one reservation per individual can be made at a time—do not try to reserve meals for more than one person at a time.  To make a reservation for meals, enter your name, church/organization, email address, etc. as requested, and click on the meal(s) (Add to Cart) you want.  Cash or checks will be accepted when you check in at the church for the meeting. On-line payment is not available.

Moderator’s Dinner – $30 per person.  The meal will be sit down/served and will take place at the church.  Please make your selections on-line at the POTE website.

Saturday, September 28, 2019

Breakfast:  $8 per person.  Saturday morning breakfast is available at the church.  Breakfast consists of:  various fruits and pastries, coffee, tea, and juice.

Lunch: $8 per person – Boxed lunches from Subway will be available. Please select either turkey or ham sub. Please make your selection per these options on-line at the POTE website.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

AUDIO/VISUAL REQUIREMENTS.  Anyone making a presentation at the meeting and requiring audio/visual assistance, MUST contact Rev. John Dorr at jcdorrjr@ymail.com not later than 4:00 p.m. on September 12, 2019, to work with him and provide any video links/connections that are needed.

MEETINGS AND EXHIBITS PRIOR TO OR DURING MEETING
Meeting and exhibit space are available at the church.  Contact Rev. John Dorr at jcdorrjr@ymail.com not later than September 17, 2019, to schedule space for meetings or exhibits prior to or during the POTE meeting.

DOCKET:  The Proposed Docket is currently being developed by the POTE’s Executive Council and will be provided in a subsequent meeting announcement when available.  Anyone wanting time on the docket should immediately notify the Council for its consideration.
