Advance Meeting Information

The 117th Stated Meeting of the Presbytery of the East that will take place on January 24-25, 2020, at Bellevue EPC, Gap, Pennsylvania.  Updates to the website will be made as they are developed and finalized.


Friday, January 24, 2020.  The business meeting will start at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, January 24, 2020.   Friday includes the Business Meeting, Moderator’s Dinner, and Worship Service. The Worship Service includes an offering for the Seminarian Fund.

Saturday Morning Breakfast and Discussion.  The Training Team has scheduled a breakfast and discussion on Saturday morning from 7:30 to 8:30 a.m. prior to the business meeting.  The topic is:  “The Opportunities and Challenges of Leading a Small Church”.  This breakfast/discussion is primarily for fellowship, comradery, and encouragement among small church pastors and ruling elders, but others who are interested are welcome.  Reservations for the breakfast should be made on the POTE’s website online—the cost is $10 per person.   See details below for making reservations.

Meal Reservations.

Deadline for meal reservations is 5:00 p.m. on January 9, 2020.  Please respect the need to make reservations by this deadline so the host church can accommodate everyone.

Everyone attending, who wishes to have dinner, breakfast, and/or lunch, MUST make meal reservations in advance of the deadline.  The website for meal reservations will be disabled at 5:00 p.m. on January 15, 2020, and no further reservations will be taken.  Reservations cancelled after this date must be paid to the church by the person making the reservation.

On-Line Meal Registration.

The Moderator’s Dinner is a Lancaster-style smorgasbord, consisting of meat, veggies, salad, and dessert trays.  There are plenty of dishes for vegetarians and vegans.  For Lunch on Saturday, there are sandwiches, chips, and fruit, which can be taken for the trip home. Use “Continue Shopping” until you have selected all of the meals that you want.  {Note:  Don’t click on “Proceed to Checkout” until you have selected all your meals.} The meal registrations are set up so that only one reservation per individual can be made at a time—do not try to reserve meals for more than one person at a time.  To make a reservation for meals, enter your name, church/organization, email address, etc. as requested, and click on the meal(s) (Add to Cart) you want.  Cash or checks will be accepted when you check in at the church for the meeting. On-line payment is not available.

LocationThe Moderator’s Dinner will be held at Plain and Fancy Smorgasbord, 3121 Old Philadelphia Pike (Route 340), Bird-in-the Hand, Pennsylvania 17505 – Tel: 717-768-4400.  The restaurant is 7 miles and 15 minutes from the church.

Cost – Moderator’s Dinner – $26.40 per person.  The meal will be Lancaster-style buffet.

  • Saturday morning breakfast and discussion on “The Opportunities and Challenges of Leading a Small Church:  Cost is $10.00 per person – please register on line.  Payment is by cash or check at the church. Online payment is not available.
  • For those not attending the Saturday morning breakfast and discussion on leadership of small churches, please take the time to relax and enjoy the free breakfasts at the hotel. There will be complimentary pastries and beverages available at the church.  There is no registration for this.

Lunch: $5.00 per person.  Sandwiches, chips, and fruit—to stay or to go.


EQUIPITRY TRAINING.  Topic:  “Creating a Culture of Ministry Health” by Roy Yanke and Jason Eddy with PIR Ministries.  This is 2-hour training on Friday during the business meeting with breakout sessions on 1) “Keys to Ministry Resilience – A Checklist for Pastoral Health” for Teaching Elders, and 2) “How to Care for Your Pastor” for Ruling Elders.

PRE-PRESBYTERY PRAYER MEETING.  The pre-Presbytery prayer time will be held between 12:15 and 12:45 p.m. on Friday, and will be led by Rev. Brad Moger, Bellevue EPC.  The room number will be provided later.

AUDIO/VISUAL REQUIREMENTS.  Anyone making a presentation at the meeting and requiring audio/visual assistance, MUST contact Bellevue’s church office at office@bellevueepc.org. not later than January 16, 2020, to obtain assistance for video links/connections.

MEETINGS AND EXHIBITS PRIOR TO OR DURING MEETING Meeting space is available at the church. Contact the church by email at office@bellevueepc.org not later than January 16, 2020, to schedule space for meetings prior to or during the POTE meeting.
